Nordic Swan Eco-label

Introduced by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Swan Eco-Label is a comprehensive system where hotels follow a strict set of criteria regarding environmental, life-quality and health issues. A Swan-labelled hotel takes significant steps towards reducing the use of chemical products and energy consumption while employing renewable energy sources. The label is valid for 3 years, after which a hotel must reapply as criteria for the label will change during the term.

Green Fáilte Award, Ireland

The Green Hospitality Award is a step-by-step environmental mangement programme specifically designed for the hospitality industry.  Awards are given at Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum levels which can now be seen in hotels, restaurants, and bars throughout Ireland.  The award has swiftly become the standard for environmental management within the hospitality sector in Ireland and was formerly known as the Green Fáilte Award.

The Green Key

Originating in Denmark, the Green Key has evolved into an international eco-label that is in use across 37 countries and focuses on rewarding hotels that fullfill criteria in the following areas: efficiency in energy and water consumption, waste separation, use of chemicals and many other things.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme

The GTBS is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK.  Businesses opting to join are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas, like energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more. Businesses that meet the required standard, receive a Bronze, Silver, or Gold award based on their level of achievement.

ISO 14001

The International Organisation for Standardization, ISA 14001 provides a standard measurement system for hotels to calculate and improve its environmental performance through a systemized approach. By providing a common base of reference, hotels can accurately measure and decrease their impact on the environment using the ISO's system.
